PDF Annotator 3: A creative tool with new capabilities and a built-in PDF printer!
PDF documents capture a file's original layout and allow it to be easily reproduced on any platform or operating system. Now, PDF Annotator opens up the original PDF document and lets you add creative comments, revisions, or handwritten notes to it-optimally when using a tablet PC. Version 3 allows several PDFs to be opened at once, as well as for PDFs to be generated using a virtual printer. New drawing tools such as lines, rectangles and ellipses have also been added.
A short summary:
- PDF Annotator 3 is available now
- For Windows PCs and tablet PCs
- Touch-screen and multi-touch capabilities
- NEW: Open multiple PDF files at once
- NEW: Take advantage of new drawing tools
- NEW: Create PDFs and load them directly to PDF Annotator
- Link: http://www.pdfannotator.com
When it comes to sharing formatted content between different computers, Adobe's Portable Document Format is the most commonly used medium, because the layout of documents, tables of numbers and presentations can be easily preserved. The recipient only needs to use the free PDF Reader in order to open the file. Because there are customized display applications for all major operating systems and mobile devices always being developed, the PDF standard is gaining ever-increasing recognition. The only bitter pill is that the "frozen" contents remain so forever.
Now, PDF Annotator unlocks the fixed structure and lets users revise, edit, comment and correct PDF files right on their screen. They can highlight or circle passages and add handwritten comments. When finished, they can save their revisions directly in the PDF and pass them along to their co-workers. The program has long been adapted for the tablet PC and really shines in a multi-touch environment. When the big tablet PC wave hits, PDF Annotator will already be waiting for it. Even on an everyday desktop computer, PDF Annotator is indispensable. Users can type directly in the PDF at any location and use the auto-smooth function to straighten out whatever imperfect details they may have added with the mouse.
PDF Annotator 3: Overview of the principal new functions
PDF Annotator 3 sports some significant new capabilities, designed to make adding creative enhancements even easier:
- Editing multiple documents: More than one document can be open at the same time. In true Windows 7 fashion, each is represented by a separate tab. Just click a tab to go from one to the next.
- Printing to PDF Annotator: The program adds a new printer driver to the system, which allows files created in any Windows application to be "printed" and then be automatically opened in PDF Annotator.
- New tools: In Version 3, there are new tools to facilitate drawing and markup. For example: you can draw straight lines in various styles, insert arrows with different kinds of tips, and generate rectangles or circles.
- Text extraction: Portions of text can be selected and extracted from an original document.
- Trimming and padding of margins: An excessive margin on a PDF document can be trimmed down to the millimeter. Likewise, a margin can be expanded to allow sufficient room for annotations.
- Zoom Tool: This new tool lets you expand or shrink specific portions of a page. On a tablet PC, you can use the multi-touch zoom motion to perform zooming.
- Rotation and mirroring of annotations: Text and drawings added with PDF Annotator can be rotated and mirrored at will.

PDF Annotator 2: A mature software solution for the hot new Tablet PC!
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, +49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
PDF Annotator 2: A mature software solution for the hot new Tablet PC!
Everyone agrees on one point: 2010 will be the year of the Tablet PC. Many companies, from Microsoft to Apple, are already preparing to hatch their brand-new products. Even before the new hardware becomes available, Windows PDF Annotator 2 will be waiting at the door. This solution for editing and annotating PDF files has long been optimized for Tablet PCs and has mastered the possibilities of multi-touch operation.
In a nutshell:
- PDF Annotator 2 allows comments on PDFs
- The latest version runs on Windows 7
- A perfect partner for Tablet PCs and Slates
- Optimized for touch- and multi-touch operation
- Link: http://www.pdfannotator.com
PDF files are the uncontested choice when it comes to sharing data between different persons, computers, and operating systems. PDFs have even crossed into the mobile domain, and can increasingly be found on cell phones, smart phones, and iPhones. You can be absolutely sure that they will also find their place on the new Tablet PCs that are sure to be Topic Number 1 in 2010.
The advantages of PDFs is that they preserve the content and appearance of a document, presentation or graphic image. The disadvantage: there is no easy way to modify them. This is where PDF Annotator 2 comes in: software that lets you open and edit any PDF file on your screen. This makes it possible to add comments, corrections, drawings, signatures, remarks and highlighting to the original file and to save them there.
As Oliver Grahl of GRAHL software design puts it: "PDF Annotator 2 is a powerful program that makes it simple and easy to edit books and correct contracts, or any type of document, on the screen. On the classic desktop system, it is already easy to use, but it's only on a touchscreen machine that its full creative capabilities come to life. That's why we're looking forward to the new Tablet PCs: it's as if the matching hardware for our program had just been developed."
PDF Annotator 2: Multi-Touch Motion on a Tablet PC
PDF Annotator 2 has been adapted for the Tablet PC for years. For example, in university settings, teaching assistants might use PDF Annotator 2 to project a PDF document containing gaps in the text on a wall, and add handwritten remarks in the course of a lecture. At the end, the completed document becomes a record of the lecture in PDF format that can be made available to students through the web.
Now, the new Tablet PCs will improve on the process even more. In the Tablet PC environment, users can use their finger as a highlighter, circle errors in a document and add supplementary text in the margin. This makes it much simpler to process any kind of text since it builds on the classic method using pen and paper.
Oliver Grahl: "The inroads that Microsoft and Apple are making in this area show how larger companies are making the Tablet PC the number one hardware gadget of 2010. We are ready for them, and expect PDF Annotator 2 to be the first Windows application that is completely suited for this environment."
PDF Annotator 2: Free 30-day trial available
PDF Annotator 2.0.0.264 (11,3 MB) is available for Windows XP, 2000, Vista and Windows 7, and for Tablet PC's as well. A free 30-day trial can be downloaded from www-grahl-software.com. Retail price is 69.95 Euros. Special terms are available for students, schools and universities. Significant discounts also apply to multiple-use licenses.

PDF Annotator 2 optimizes the classroom experience: Live finalization of PDF presentations!
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, +49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
PDF Annotator 2 optimizes the classroom experience: Live finalization of PDF presentations!
PDF Annotator 2 takes classroom presentations to a new level: teachers and professors can now capture the substance of a presentation as a PDF document and project them on the wall. Then PDF Annotator takes over, as the instructor adds remarks and drawings, making possible a new kind of lecture. At the end, the PDF document can be saved in its new form and loaded to a server where it can be downloaded.
This is the shape of instruction in the new millennium. PDF Annotator 2 makes PDF documents editable on the screen, instead of just on paper, as in the past. So, for example, important passages can be highlighted, and drawings, strikeouts, or arrows can be added to a page. You can even add comments--either on the keyboard, or by hand. PDF Annotator 's new Version 2 now also lets you add images with a rubber stamp tool. At the end, the result can be printed or saved as a new PDF document.
As Oliver Grahl of GRAHL software design puts it: "The numbers of instructors using the full version of our software is steadily increasing because it is so well-suited to classroom use. PDF Annotator 2 really shows off its capabilities when it comes to editing electronic presentations."
PDF Annotator 2: Live PDF presentations in full-screen mode
Many instructors typically collect various documents that they use to illustrate a lecture by projecting them on a screen. Microsoft PowerPoint, Soft Maker Presentations or OpenOffice.org's Impress are useful tools for putting together appealing presentations that combine text and images. Even newer online applications like Google Docs and Microsoft Office Live can save presentations as PDF's. Existing presentations saved on overhead foils can, of course, also be scanned and then saved as PDF files.
Now, PDF Annotator 2 can open one of these files during a lecture and display it in full-screen mode. This view eliminates the menus and margins and shows only the pages themselves with narrow toolbars along the edge of the screen. The toolbars can be expanded in seconds when necessary by holding the mouse over them. This represents a brand-new approach and an intriguing solution that saves all available space for the content, while removing unneeded trimmings. In addition, the optional "continuous view" allows the text to be scrolled into view line by line. This is a significant improvement over past practices, where the presenter would slide a piece of paper downwards to progressively expose new bullet points. Fortunately, this antique methodology can now be become a historical curiosity.
Presenters can now modify the material while it is being shown. Sketches can be drawn, passages underlined, numbers updated by hand, and arrows drawn to related material. Instructors can also prepare a text with portions left blank that can be filled in during the lecture. Another possible use would be to formulate a mathematical solution to a problem with the help of the audience.
Oliver Grahl: "This represents a new way of livening up instruction--in effect, the entire notes are being written during the lecture itself--and with the direct participation of the students. A lot of instructors who have tried this method say that they would never want to give it up."
The best way to work on PDF materials is using a Tablet PC, which makes it easy to write or draw on the display with a stylus. It can also be used on any laptop, but most universities already have a good supply of Tablet PC's. Moreover, PDF Annotator 2 also lends itself to distance learning with the help of desktop-sharing software available through outside vendors. A few universities are already using PDF Annotator for this purpose.
PDF Annotator 2: Saves all changes in a new PDF file!
At the end of the lecture or class, any changes made to the PDF document by PDF Annotator 2 can be saved as a new file. This means that the final product can immediately be saved and made accessible to the audience's computers or downloadable from a website. This also means that the class can concentrate on the material that is being presented instead of busying themselves by taking it all down.
Oliver Grahl: "In this way, it is an easy matter to put together a collection of lecture or classroom notes that can be used to review the material or that can be quickly downloaded by a student who has missed a lecture."
PDF Annotator 2: Free 30-day trial available
PDF Annotator 2 (10.5 MB) is available for Windows XP, 2000 and Vista, and for Tablet PC's as well. A free 30-day trial can be downloaded from www-grahl-software.com. Retail price is 69.95 Euros. PDF Annotator 2 facilitates adding comments to PDF documents: Now with Page Manager, Stamps and Toolbox
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, +49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
PDF Annotator 2 facilitates adding comments to PDF documents: Now with Page Manager, Stamps and Toolbox
How's this for creativity: PDF Annotator can open PDF documents for markup with electronic ink - turning the revision of an existing document into child's play. Version 2.0 makes the process even more efficient, with new functionality including a Page Manager, a completely customizable Toolbox, Stamps, a Bookmark Manager, and a facility for straightening out handwritten lines.
PDF files are a great invention. Documents written and formatted on any personal computer can easily be exchanged between users - no matter how they were created, or what operating system the author or reader are using. PDF documents can be opened, viewed and printed. Unfortunately, they cannot be edited.
Or can they? This is where PDF Annotator 2 saves the day. The software lends itself to creating, commenting or revising PDF documents of any kind. In short, PDF Annotator makes it possible to work with a single copy of a text as one would if no computer were available: multiple users can highlight passages with a marker, circle individual words, add handwritten or keyed comments next to existing text, or draw a quick sketch to show how a graphic could be improved. At last, even readers of digital books can add remarks directly on the page. All these annotations can be easily be made on a Tablet PC or graphics tablet, or even with a mouse and keyboard on a regular desktop PC.
A key point is that all comments are saved directly in the original PDF file. Oliver Grahl of GRAHL software design puts it this way: "More and more enterprises and creative teams are using PDF Annotator to pass a file from one person to another and gather comments. At the end, all observations and corrections are incorporated into the original. The result is a final version on which everyone has had a chance to comment and contribute - whether it be a manual, a small newspaper, or a company profile."
PDF Annotator 2: Now with virtual stamps!
Version 2 of PDF Annotator is now available immediately. The software has been extensively optimized and enhanced. Some of the principal new features are:
Page Manager: the Page Manager, prominently displayed in the new sidebar, contains thumbnails of all pages in the PDF document. These thumbnails can be used to move, copy or rotate pages - even several pages at once. It is now easy to insert new documents into an existing PDF file, as all of PDF Annotator's tools can be applied to the new file's pages, as well. Page Manager maintains a history of previously visited pages, and can automatically find the next page in the document with annotations.
Toolbox: The new Toolbox makes it simple to select the most appropriate tool for the task at hand. This could be a pen, marker, text tool, or stamp. The contents of the Toolbox can be arranged to the user's liking, and the most commonly used tools made quickly accessible through a favorites collection on its own tab. The Toolbox's flexibility gives each individual a quick and easy way to increase productivity.
Stamps: The Stamps tab on the sidebar makes it easy to apply designated images to a PDF page, even many times in succession, just as with a rubber stamp. Almost any image file can be used as a stamp. Certain common symbols like check marks and arrows are delivered as part of the software. Just by using the green check mark and the red X, a checklist can be set up in record time. Bold arrows can alert a reader to changes that might otherwise not be immediately apparent. New stamps can be made out of any of a user's image files, or from user-specified text.
Bookmark Manager: The new Bookmark Manager lets users create, modify and delete bookmarks in a document. Bookmarks can then be accessed from their own sidebar tab. Another helpful innovation is PDF Annotator's ability to remember which page was open when a document was closed and to automatically return to it the next time that the document is opened.
Auto-Smooth: To give the finished document, with all of its changes and comments, a professional appearance, Auto-Smooth can be turned on wherever needed. It straightens any manually drawn line or marker stroke, and even makes drawings look more professional.
Version 2 also sports improvements to the full-screen mode and text search functions, and now permits a continuous view of the entire document. The menus and toolbars have likewise been optimized and given a new look and feel. When composing text, users can now choose from among different background colors and borders. A new super-fast rendering engine optimizes clarity and readability, even when small fonts are used.
PDF Annotator 2: Free 30-day trial available
PDF Annotator 2 (10.5 MB) is available for Windows XP, 2000 and Vista, and for Tablet PCs as well. A free 30-day trial can be downloaded from www.grahl-software.com. Retail price is USD 69.95. PDF Annotator awarded Second Place at the 2007 Epsilon Awards!
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, +49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
PDF Annotator awarded Second Place at the 2007 Epsilon Awards
At the annual presentation of the Epsilon Awards this year, GRAHL Software Design’s PDF Annotator was awarded second place. This now award-winning software can be used to mark up an existing PDF file with comments, corrections, and drawings. This makes editing any kind of PDF document child’s play.
The European Software Conference (ESWC) has been presenting the Epsilon Awards since 2006. These are presented to software developers who have created a standalone application for the Windows, MacOS, or Linux platforms and who have made it through a qualifying round to distinguish themselves from the competition in open voting. Last year’s winner was the British company Alcohol Soft’s program Alcohol 120%.
The winner of this year’s competition was xplorer2. Runner-up was Germany’s PDF Annotator, and third place was awarded to the well-known compression tool WinRAR. After the qualifying round (July - September) and the voting phase (September - October), these three applications trounced the remaining competition. Results of the voting were announced at the November 4 session of the European Software Conference in Cologne.
Oliver Grahl of GRAHL software design states: "We are proud of PDF Annotator’s success in the face of strong competition from all over Europe. We see ourselves in a strengthened position from having made available a truly innovative piece of software that fills a real gap in today’s marketplace."
The award was presented by Hubert Gey, chairman of the Economic Committee of the City of Cologne, in the name of the Lord Mayor of Cologne, Fritz Schramma, and under the auspices of the European Software Conference.
PDF Annotator 1.5: Mark Up PDF Files!

PDF Annotator 1.5: Just type right in a PDF document!
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, ++49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
PDF Annotator 1.5: Just type right in a PDF document!
PDF Annotator revolutionizes the way users in business, educational, or home settings deal with their PDF documents. Now it's possible to insert comments on PDF documents from any PC. Text boxes, highlighting, drawings and images--all are easy to add to any PDF document with PDF Annotator.
The whole world is becoming digital. Documents are no longer distributed on paper, but sent on their way electronically. To eliminate compatibility issues between the sender and the recipient, the PDF format was devised. Any type of file that uses this format can be opened, read or printed from any computer, but cannot modified.
This is where PDF Annotator comes in, to put an end to a forced passivity where dealing with PDF files is concerned. In the words of developer Oliver Grahl: "Users can process PDF’s as if they were documents lying on a table in front of them. They can use any white space to insert comments, and they can point out important sections by underlining or highlighting them or correct mistakes by crossing words out." Whenever a document is presented in PDF form, PDF Annotator is the tool of choice when it comes to searching text, collaboration, or editing.
The software was first made available to users of Tablet PC’s and graphics tablets in order to let them make corrections in place using a stylus.
PDF Annotator Version 1.5 has just been released. This means that PDF Annotator can now run on any desktop PC--a request made by many users who wanted to be able to use this clever program on their office PC.
PDF Annotator 1.5: Just start typing
Now you can just type in corrections anywhere using your keyboard. This makes it possible to thoroughly comment a document without having to do it by hand. Just click any spot, and start typing. The text that you enter becomes part of the document, but you can also use PDF Annotator at a later time to change what you’ve added. Once you’ve made all your changes, you can integrate all of your comments into the document with a single click. But that’s not all: the new version contains many interesting new features.
For example, you’ll find that Version 1.5 lets you add images and photos to a PDF. Text and images can be brought into a PDF through the clipboard. You can also add any number of drawings to a PDF and mark up text. Version 1.5 gives users a palette of customizable drawing tools. Of course, PDF Annotator 1.5 is ready for Vista.
According to Oliver Grahl: "The most notable enhancement in PDF Annotator 1.5 is clearly the ability to enter text through the keyboard. This makes PDF Annotator available for use on any desktop PC. Our customers are always telling us that PDF Annotator is one of the few essential tools that they use every day."
Try PDF Annotator free for 30 days
PDF Annotator 1.5 (6.5 MB) can be used with Windows XP, 2000, and Vista, and also with Tablet PC’s. You can download PDF Annotator for a free 30-day evaluation from the website. A manual (0.7 MB) is available as a separate download.
The software retails for $49.95(US). In addition, there are attractive discounts available for students, entire schools and institutes of higher education. Business users can take advantage of reduced-price Corporate Packs.

Norton Antivirus resolves false alarm on AB-Clock Since their virus definition update from July 8, 2006, Norton Antivirus reported a false positive, saying the goMsg.dll component, which is part of our AB-Clock product, would be a malware called Spyware.SniperSpy. The vendor Symantec was informed about the problem, has confirmed and resolved it with their latest virus signature update. Norton Antivirus users should update to the latest definitions, if not yet automatically done. |

Norton Antivirus reports false alarm on AB-Clock Since last weekend's virus definition update, Norton Antivirus reports a false positive, saying the goMsg.dll component, which is part of our AB-Clock product, would be a malware called Spyware.SniperSpy. The vendor Symantec has been informed about the problem and they are already working on resolving it. Until then, you can help yourself, depending on your configuration, by moving the goMsg.dll file out of the quarantine, or by telling Norton to ignore detections on this file. If Norton has silently deleted the file, you will have to reinstall AB-Clock to get it back. You will find step by step instructions here. |

PDF Annotator "School Pack": PDF's are Appearing Everywhere in the Academic and Research Worlds
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, ++49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
PDF Annotator "School Pack": PDF's are Appearing Everywhere in the Academic and Research Worlds.
PDF Annotator makes it easy to write and draw directly on PDF documents. Right now, PDF Annotator is finding more and more uses in instructional settings-by both teachers and students. Seizing on this, the producer has now decided to make the software available as an economically-priced "School Pack."
Any document, spreadsheet or presentation can be saved in PDF format. And anyone can view any of these files with the free Acrobat Reader. So it doesn't matter what application was originally used to create the PDF. Meanwhile PDF (Portable Document Format) documents are spreading like wildlife and popping up everywhere.
A PDF revolution is taking place on the average home computer. Formerly, PDF documents could only be viewed and printed-unless one had expensive additional software, they could not be edited. Now, PDF Annotator makes it easy and cost-efficient to add notes to PDF documents. Comments can be added in longhand. Anyone can now circle entire paragraphs, draw arrows to point out areas of special interest, or underline text. In the past, PDF Annotator could be found mainly in businesses, where with either a Tablet PC or a Windows 2000/XP desktop, documents or charts could be edited and commented on the spot. Now, this versatile tool has now made its way into the realm of teaching and research.
Creative Instruction-Using PDF Annotator
PDF Annotator is finding more and more uses in schools and universities. For example, in private schools where many students have laptops or Tablet PC's, they can can fill in answers to worksheets directly on the screen. The teacher can then collect the saved PDF's and grade them. Says developer Oliver Grahl, "In some schools, technological progress is not just a talking point, but reality. We are glad to see PDF Annotator helping to make this possible."
PDF Annotator can also be found in ever more settings at the university level. No longer is it necessary to install clunky overhead projectors-instead, instructors can simply connect a PC projector to a Tablet PC. Instructors can write directly on a pen-equipped computer while lecturing, in the same way they used to write on a transparency or chalkboard. Results are displayed directly on the screen, and the subject matter becomes alive and immediate. And that's not all: According to Oliver Grahl, "When the lecture is over, the entire script can simply be loaded to a server as a PDF and subsequently downloaded. Students can dispense with taking notes and really concentrate on the lecture."
That is just the first of many possibilities involving PDF Annotator. Instructors can also use it to scan exams, distribute articles with added comments, or add observations to theses.
Now available: the "School Pack" at an especially attractive price
Students may now obtain PDF Annotator at a special "Spring Savings" price of US$34.90 instead of $49.95. For those students who want to save both their friends and themselves money, there is also the "Buddy Pack": a package of 5 licenses that brings down the cost of one license to $25.80. For a group of 10, the per-license prices drops to $22.90. When PDF Annotator is purchased for an entire school or university, an even greater discount is applied: The price drops to $9.98 (100 Pack), $2.80 (500 Pack), or $2.00 per license (1000 pack).
"PDF Annotator 1.2" (3.4 MB) can be downloaded and used on a trial basis for 30 days. A User Guide in PDF format is available as a separate 1.1 MB PDF file. The program runs on a Tablet PC or a Windows 2000/XP desktop.

Easily Add Comments to PDF Files
For Immediate Release
Contact: Oliver Grahl, ++49 871 966 58 13, info AT GRAHL-software.com
Easily Add Comments to PDF Files
GRAHL software design has released PDF Annotator(tm), a Tablet PC
program that lets you open any PDF file, add comments using the Tablet
PC pen, and save the annotated documents in PDF format. Using PDF
Annotator, you can highlight text, circle or cross out items, write your
comments in the margins, and provide all sorts of written feedback that
your business colleagues, customers, prospects, and students can read or
print.
On December 1, 2004, Microsoft announced the winners of their Tablet PC
Developer Application Contest, and PDF Annotator was among the 12
applications that won an award. For more information, please see
Microsoft's press release on
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/dec04/12-01TabletPCWinnerPR.asp
Before PDF Annotator, proofreading and commenting on a PDF file was a
complex process. All of the people on the project had to have multiple
software products, and spend a lot of time wrestling with files.
Alternatively, they could print PDF files, annotate them manually, and
pass paper to the various team members. PDF Annotator lets you add
comments naturally, using a pen. All files remain in standard PDF
format, and all of the work takes place in a single step. The resulting
PDF files can be easily emailed to business colleagues around the world.
It's simple to insert blank pages and add extensive comments. You can
even use PDF Annotator for note taking by creating a new, blank PDF
document.
Filling in forms is a natural application for PDF Annotator. People can
enter information and distribute it to colleagues, without having to
learn to use a new computer program.
Whether you're a business manager who is responsible for coordinating
work with people around the globe, a project manager who needs to get
quick feedback from team members, a business owner who needs an easy way
for customers to fill in forms and sign documents, an educator who wants
an efficient way to provide feedback to students, or a creative writer
who needs to gather feedback from people who lack complex technical
skills, PDF Annotator has the tools that you need.
PDF Annotator runs on the Tablet PC and similar devices, costs
$29.90(US) or 24.90 Euros for a single-user license, and may be
purchased securely online from http://www.GRAHL-software.com/.
Multi-user licenses are available. You can download a 30-day trial
version from the same web address.
